Reading are a team under a new manager Mark Bowen who as sporting director and still holds that role appointed himself to take the royals forward after what has been a poor start for them considering the money and players brought in at the start of the season.
Reading Have been playing 3-5-2 in resent games and rotating players regularly in order to find a formula that allows them to take control of the midfield areas. When it comes to style of play Reading like having the ball in their own half with short passes and building possession in order to force teams to press before using the strength and power of the midfield to burst quickly into attacking play. When attacking Reading like to come through the middle or right side of the pitch with the plan to pull full backs out of position to allow for strikers to move into the wider areas when the backline becomes compact. Based on the last couple of games Reading’s strike force will be delighted in seeing how badly forests left side has been defensively as most of their goals come from that side.
Without the ball their midfield is strong and physical and they like to overpower players to win the ball back high up the pitch. And with two strikers putting a high press on defenders they do not allow teams to pass out from the back. Their back three are also very good in the air and have a good record of dealing with balls into the box.
How to get at them.
When defending against reading it is important that the midfield and defensive lines do not get to far apart as they rely on powering through players over skill which means the ball does bounce around off legs, shins etc. as they ride tackles. What forest need to do is get onto the loose 50-50 balls quickly before they get them under control and drive at the next player. Central midfield will need to be strong and get control of this game early on if forest want to take the points.
When attacking Reading teams have been successful in using the areas behind the wingers to advance the ball forwards at pace before the players cut in and have long range efforts. Slow build up has resulted in reading being able to get back and turn over the ball. Reading concede most goals from long range as the goalkeeper does not have the reach or spring in order to cover the goal when diving into the corners.
Match prediction: well I am wondering if our midfield can cope with the strength of Reading right now and our wingers are really struggling especially Sammy who does not seem able to control a ball to feet or pass. Maybe a change in formation might be needed by forest as we are not moving the ball quickly or correctly and have seen passes going right back to the same person the pass came from without even moving the other team. 1-1 draw to stop the run of defeats.
