Thought it might be a good time to have a look at how our transfer business has gone since we got promoted. Based on the performances of the existing squad players we essentially needed 9 starters plus another 10+ to rotate/cover.
Will start defensively
Keepers:
Henderson - Hit
Navas - likely Hit
Hendo had some big games although was at fault a few times when we. Had that ridiculous run of long range goals conceded earlier in the year. Navas started well and hasn't made any errors.
Defenders
Neco - Miss
Aurier - Hit
Boly - Hit
Niakhate - not enough info
Felipe - Likely Hit
Richards - Miss
Lodi - Hit
Toffolo - Miss
Biancone - Miss
Bade - Miss
We got a big win on Aurier, luckily after the failing of the Neco signing, nets off really. Lodi, started slowly but I think has looked good enough for this league. Real potential for him to grow and improve next year if he stays on after having a year to settle.
Boly, showing his value by being injured right now! Had a poor debut but stepped up after the Spurs game and since then has been our best defender, badly missed right now. Really need Niakhate to step up when he comes back in with Worrall sadly proving to make too many mistakes.
Richards, not really much to say on that. Toffolo has looked a capable backup to me, although that said I think Neco is probably the backup LB so probably makes it a miss.
Felipe has had a strong start and has proven to be very necessary after the injuries to Boly and McKenna.
Oh and Bade who knows! Some will say he should've been given a chance although I would trust the fact he couldn't get in the squad as a sign he wasn't up to it. Probably our most pointless signing but I doubt we paid a big loan fee so overall no a huge loss.
Thoughts?

Think its worth pointing out that the majority of the recruits in the summer were intended to fit a 532 system.
I would say Williams in particular is a victim of not really fitting with a back 4 and on paper Niakhate, Biancone and even Lodi probably suit a back 5 better.
Therefore we have the situation that a lot of our later buys were freebies to adapt to a different style. We are lucky Aurier turned out far better than most of us expected, Boly too has looked decent.
The fact remains when Boly got injured we were relying on our Championship centre backs which was never going to work.
Goalkeepers, it was very good work to get Navas, we clearly made a bluff late on about Hendo being nearly fit so PSG didn't hold us to ransom.
However should we stay up I would thank Navas, shake his hand then move heaven and earth to get Hendo back.

Controversial comment follows:
Navas has been alright but not brilliant. He's conceded the following in the games he's played in :0, 2, 1, 4, 2 and 3. Its hardly a brilliant record.

If Navas was Welsh and his mum had christened him Wayne Im sure he would be getting dogs abuse.

A goalie is only as good as the defenders in front mate.. navas has stopped a lot going in. But you can only save so many

Well Henderson was conceding more than that earlier in the season.

He was yes. Im just putting it out there that imo Navas has been ok, but nothing extra special.

Without Navas we would be 3 points worse off.
MOM performance against Leeds, which without that, we would one be in the bottom 3.

Yes, agree but nothing of note since. I'm not having a go at him, just saying ive seen nothing exceptional, but thats they way he's talked about.

Navas isn’t exceptional by Premier League standards. Thats the usual problem on forums, player x can only be brilliant or crap, the truth is he has been decent and done his best like the most of the rest of the team.
We need to be looking ahead now as to who needs to be here to take us forward if we aren’t to be involved in another relegation scrap next year. Unfortunately we also need to plan for a very different scenario too…

Tbf there's only so much a keeper can do to contribute, he can't save shots that are not saveable. Likewise if the other team keep hitting it near him he can rack up lots of saves.
Aside from maybe the Man City goal, I can't think of any goal we conceded where I felt Navas could've done more, that's all I want from a keeper personally. Good distribution and strong from set pieces is also welcomed. Not seen any issues on those fronts either.

Far too early to say Williams is a miss.
Young player who will get better. As has already been said he wasn’t signed to play fullback.
He’s got enough tools to get to the level, and patience is required.
