Analysing The Friendly’s

Did anyone see the game on the link that was flying around?

I didn’t I was at a wedding.

It was a 1-0 loss but it appears we did very well against a team that at least certainly played together the whole of last season which I feel was a big advantage over our ‘brand new team.

They finished 6th which was impressive and are in europa this season.

It appears the Portuguese contingent played very well?

Murphy fluffed his lines again but played well?

Cash was busy.

I would like to know how Soudani looked although he missed a few chances.

Did we really play that well to hint that we may be in for a good season?

Don’t even try!
Meaningless games arranged in order to build match fitness, test systems / pairings etc & nothing more.
Over the years I’ve witnessed fantastic pre seasons ( unbeaten ) followed by awful regular seasons & vice versa.
Enjoy the games but don’t read anything into them.

It's all covered in the Nottingham Forest Matchday section of the forum.

Every match will have it's own thread where we can debate and analyse.

I disagree. Yes the games are arranged to develop fitness but they also give an indication as to the quality of our current squad and the togetherness. The result is irrelevant.

What did we see last night? Movement and short passing was excellent. Little triangles all over the pitch passing around opposition players was delightful. Bu also the ability to mix it and send it long with someone with the ability to control the ball on the end of it. There was a clear sense of togetherness in the game. The players worked for each other all over the pitch and this did not change with the multitude of substitutions. That, for me, is a huge positive for the coming season.

The Portuguese lAds looked excellent. Good control, movement and some lightning speed, something we have been missing for a while. I feel they will only get better.

Soudani worked his socks off, got in to good positions and created more chances in the time he was on than we created as a team in the rest of the game. Had a goal ruled out for offside too. He will get better as he has longer training. He only started this week.

Grabban was busy. Hard working and made it difficult for the defenders. He didn’t get much in terms of chances and we didn’t create enough for him to have opportunity. We will see more of him in the coming games.

Dawson and Robinson looked cool and composed, solid. Dawson was organising the defence throughout his whole game. He will be a huge addition this season. Robinson is clearly a step up from Osborn and that showed when he came on. No Hing against Osborn.

I, personally, was very impressed with what I saw last night. They have done a very good job recruitment wise. This squad will only get better too. With that said, I am not going to state that we will get promoted. It’s too early to say. We will not, however, be facing a season of fighting at the wrong end of the table... that is clear already.

Don’t read anything in to the result, look at the team performance, the effort and attitude of the group and the little details. They were all positive.

Exactly . Burnley only beat a 2nd string Irish side on Friday 1-0.

Likes of Lennon, Heaton , Wells and wood all playing

I watched the stream but I thought Yates was possibly our best player. In fact the difference in strength, power & athleticism between the Yates/Guedi combo and Watson/Bridcutt was stark. Yates should be kept unless we sign someone else with that profile.

Sodani did okay but he should've squared one to Grabban for an easy finish instead of trying to turn and shoot himself.

I think these are great for match fitness don’t get me wrong but if that was the aim of the match they could all just be running around with the ball.

They are important to find our ‘identity’.

To gel the players and get used to what each team mate can do and to get used to what to expect from team mates so that when the season starts they are each able to assess where to play the ball etc.

Uwantlee...a good report mate
