Confusing confirmation from the Guardian that Jonjo had his contract terminated in the summer because the club reached the maximum amount of outgoing loans. I'm guessing this was an expensive one for us.

I'm guessing this was an expensive one for us. He could have breached his contract though. Didn't he allegedly headbutt someone in a bar or something like that? Then there was supposedly a bust up at the training ground, not sure if that came to blows or not. Think we may have had grounds for a cancellation but not sure.

Suspect the potential issue is if we informed the Premier League it was loan when he has been released. Not sure how much that matters. If it was a contract breach/termination you would think he would have left the club earlier this year.
Another point is that we have reached the limit for outgoing loans. Therefore if Nuno wants to trim his squad we need to find permanent deals for others or convert existing loans to permanent, not easy in January. I believe, I could be wrong on this, we can still loan to the Championship and lower leagues, just not Europe?

Getting off track now but...
Scarpa'a move back to Brazil has opened up a loan out spot and It looks like Dennis is coming back I presume to be sold so that would open up another. :Off Topic:

My lasting memory of Shelvey?
That penalty he gave away at Aston Villa.

I am not sure it does, Sniffer; if Wiki is correct we started the season with 11 players over the age of 21 out on loan; The sales of Scarpa and Shelvey bring that down to 9.
Either someone has made a monumental f*** up, or the rules do not apply to the PL yet

Completely understand why we wanted Shelvey at the time, screaming out for someone to be brave with the ball in Midfield.
He was that...

Shelvey has had a long career, mostly with big clubs in the top division. Suddenly he signs for Forest and is bombed out after a couple of months. Then we hear that the Forest through and through club captain is bombed out too after a disagreement. We've have a top class world cup winner in the squad who couldn't make the first 11 and players like Santos and Tavares who have never had a look in. Dennis last season too. I don't know what happened with Shelvey but there is a bit of a pattern. Maybe the issue isn't always the player.

This sort of thing has been going on along time Pap and before Cooper too if thats what you are implying. Not sure if it got to be public knowledge before but under this ownership we seem to have “official” bomb squads. We probably always had them unofficially.
I can think of Carvalho, Ribeiro, Benalouane, Claudio Yacob, Ben Watson for a while, Im sure plenty others too.

I think when things are going well most people on the sidelines know to keep their head down but when the it goes the other way they are more vocal and it causes division. Jonjo was banished a d**k because results were on the up when he kicked off but others would have quietly had their frustrations. Wozza had the same argument with Cooper when things were darker on the pitch and it gavers momentum because the players have more leverage at this point. Like Sal said it's a pretty standard end to a managers tenure. All things considered though Shelvey does have plenty of form with controversy.

Is it standard though for a £5m player to have his contract cancelled after only a couple of months? What on earth could he have possibly done to deserve such extreme treatment? Why wasnt he just relegated to the bomb squad like players have in the past? And Wozza, what could he have done or said that warrants his immediate banishment and subsequent sale out of the club? It all suggests a lack of any quality HR management to me. |
