Norwich play a narrow 4-2-3-1 formation which uses a short passing style in the middle third of the pitch. Not a team for building out from the back they prefer to get the ball into the midfielders quickly and then control possession further up the pitch.
Despite using a consistent 11 this season Norwich players seem to have benefited from double training and an early pre-season as the players energy levels outlast many other teams in closing stages of the games and this has helped them turn draws into wins more often than not. In fact, they have scored 16 goals this season in the final 10 mins of matches 11 of those 16 are from open play in the 18 yard box. Yet even though Norwich are dangerous in the final moments of a game most of their goals actually come in the first half of a match with more than half of their 53 goals happening in the first 45 mins.
Norwich are a team built to attack centrally over use of the wings will often create chances using through balls rather than getting to crossing positions. The main threat and reason this works so well is not because they have pukki (21 championship goals) but because they have Buendia pulling the strings. A hugely talent player with 12 assists so far and average match performance rating to match.
Even though Norwich have a lot of strengths and are rightly top of the league I’ve had a look at areas which they have been vulnerable this season.
Norwich’s Goalkeeper is Tim Krul and has been very consistent so far this season however the same weakness remains since I first saw him play at Newcastle and that is his inability to set himself in time for long range efforts. So worth taking a pot shot as it were, from wherever you get an opening, just get it on target.
Second weakness and more likely to be exploited by Forest is Norwich’s lack of Aerial strength and reactions to a second ball when defending. Norwich have really had the luck on their side with this one as chances for the attacking team have come very regularly during the games and yet players seem unable to control the rush of blood and just swing at the ball. A bit of composure and it’s in. I haven’t investigated the statement that is floating around from Norwich fans but they were insinuating that more chances have been missed from within the 6 yard box against them than any other team in the league.
My view on the outcome is that Norwich will just have that extra bit of class over us in this game especially early on while we get to grips with the midfield battle but the first blow could have already been struck. Norwich to win by 1 or 2 goals.
