Peter 'The Tank' Hindley - ZacAllen1934 - 14-05-2020 Hi, I am the grandson of former forest player Peter ‘Tank’ Hindley. He played over 350 games for the reds and captained the side to an FA cup semi-final against Spurs. In 2007 he was diagnosed with Dementia and has slowly deteriorated and at the start of 2019 was placed into a care home in Peterborough. When visiting him in the care home he could still point out several players he played with like Ian Storey-Moore, John Barnwell and Terry Hennessey. In the last few weeks we have decided to try and collect as many memories and memorabilia as we possibly can to have an everlasting memory of him. Therefore, I would like to invite anyone to post on here any pictures, fun facts, memories or information about either my Grandad or the era in which he would have played, any pictures or memorabilia would be greatly appreciated. As well as this, if anyone knows of anyone or has contacts that could help me in my search would also be really appreciated. If anyone would like to get in touch personally my email address is zacallen@btinternet.com. Thankyou very much in advance, Zac Allen RE: Peter 'The Tank' Hindley - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 14-05-2020 ![]() Welcome to COYR Zac. I can just about remember your Grandad, I believe that he played in the first Forest match I ever went to when I was just a small boy, It would have been around 1970 against Burnley. Your Grandad is here in the picture above, third from the right. RE: Peter 'The Tank' Hindley - Ciscokid - 14-05-2020 Hi Zac So sorry that your Grandpa has got dementia. It's one of life's worst deals as it steals so much from you. I remember him fondly as he and John Winfield, his full back mate formed bastions against opposition wing threats. I came across him once I think at the central market recognising him immediately. Only then did I realise how accurate his title Tank was. Actually I remember that he was titled that for the style of his of his occasional charges forward which were rare but amazing as he seemed to use his size, strength and determination to gain progress. I suspect that he had no time for what I imagine he dismissed as fancy tricks that weren't for full backs. Lovely memories for me and whilst I can't offer you any photos and I can tell you that your post has brought back for me a great picture of Tank marauding forward at the City Ground whilst the crowd held their breath. P!ease tell him that an old supporter sends him respects and love. Well done yourself Zac as it's tough on those around him. RE: Peter 'The Tank' Hindley - ThePromisedLand - 14-05-2020 Hello Zac I’m afraid I can offer nothing - other than to say that he was one member of probably the second best team I’ve ever witnessed in the garibaldi red. The mid 60’s - and 66/7 in particular - were halcyon days. So unlucky not to collect a major trophy that year. So sorry to hear that your grandad is suffering - please pass on the thanks of us fans that were so privileged to witness those days. RE: Peter 'The Tank' Hindley - Sniffer Dog (Admin) - 14-05-2020 Peter spent 11 years with Forest and made close to 400 appearances. Phenomenal. RE: Peter 'The Tank' Hindley - Joe Baker Legend - 14-05-2020 ![]() Hi Zac, I haven't lots of photos of The "Original Tank", but loads of happy memories of watching him playing his heart out for Forest. Such a great team he played in, sorry to hear of his plight at the moment, I found this photo, he is on the back row where the pillar is, flanked by Storey Moore and big Sammy Chapman, if I find any more I will put them on here.
