Joao Carvalho - wassy04 - 30-12-2018

if the board are giving Karanka a mid season review, thought we should do the same. So what does everyone think of our record signing.

Personally I like him, clearly got skill, works hard, presses much better than dowell. Has a similar tendancy to disappear but I guess thats always likely for a number 10.

I think he’s unfairly judged on his price tag. Not so much in the sense he has no choice but that we invested in potential rather than end product. That means it’s not just about contribution but potential future value. I think he’ll grow in confidence/ability the longer he plays in England. This is still only his first year in professional football playing every week. I think his value hasn’t gone down since we signed him.

Most people seem to judge that as he’s not the best player in the league already he’s doing badly. Just wanted to see if others agree with me.

No probs Wassy.
He’s still a kid playing in a foreign country - he’ll continue to get better.
Suggest folks just leave off him - he needs an arm around his shoulder, not bollockings.

RE: Joao Carvalho - TheGreenMan - 30-12-2018

I like him a lot and he’ll only get better.

Would like to see him pop up with a few more goals tho.

RE: Joao Carvalho - the jock - 30-12-2018

He has shown moments of real quality . Goes missing alot though . Very weak.aston villa he was fantastic

RE: Joao Carvalho - Maltared - 30-12-2018

If he was just on loan yes...paying 12 million for him....money thrown away...we will never get out our money  back....we will be lucky to get half...if AK leaves he will leave too....if not with the other two ...not long after ...yesterday was the first game he was subbed. ..more will follow especially if we sign two or three other players...

RE: Joao Carvalho - HykehamRed - 30-12-2018

He epitomises the whole team for me- brilliant on his day but rubbish if not. Nothing in between.
It must be hard for him. Games come thick and fast, pressure us on him to perform and he’s going to attract a lot of attendtion from opposition players and fans.
Does he ‘go missing’ any more than Lolley?
I don’t think we’ll see the best of him. Give it 4/5 years we’ll see him in the Champions league and wonder what might have been

RE: Joao Carvalho - Redgirl - 30-12-2018

Sorry just don’t see this, people moaning when we sell Brereton who for me does nothing, has had opportunity after opportunity to prove himself, and yet a player such as Carvelho who the like we haven’t seen for years gets slated. Give the lad time, his vision is far and away above the other players which is why things don’t always come off.

The other two could go back tomorrow for me but I would be gutted if Carv left. He will eventually, played in the right team, be worth twice what we paid for him.

RE: Joao Carvalho - BarryLyons - 30-12-2018

I hate to say this.
I think he’s too good for us as we are.
Or as we have been playing. Or set up to play.
His thinking is too fast.
He plays defence splitting passes to where someone should be and......

The only thing against him is his size in this league. It’s a bit too physical for him perhaps.

RE: Joao Carvalho - Username - 30-12-2018

We don’t give him the ball enough, our pass completion rate during December is extremely high but it’s not being done enough in the final third.

He created some incredible moments against Norwich.

I couldn't agree more Redgirl. Creative players like him tend to produce most from mid twenties on peaking at maybe 28. Even now though he sees chances to be made early and fast. His execution will improve and would be/will be(?) better amongst better players who can move in time with him. I could close my eyes and see him with the likes of Francis, Woodcock and Birtles ahead of and alongside him. He reminds me of a young Trevor Brooking, sorry I am that old!
