The Olympiacos Signings - Sausage Roll - 05-09-2018
There's been a lot said about the calibre of player that we've signed (and presumably are going to sign) from Olympiacos. However, I wonder if our views on these players are skewed by where they've come from?
Admittedly Bouchalakis and Kapino weren't huge successes at Forest and didn't have much of a pedigree before we'd signed them. However, if you look at the records and experience of Tachtsidis and Ansarifard (presuming he does join), they're actually not bad. Both experienced internationals with a decent amount of game time in top-flight leagues (Serie A in Tachtsidis' case). If we were signing these players from a different club would there be less cynicism and scepticism towards them? Would we look on them as somehow 'better' because we wouldn't be seeing them as Olympiacos 'castoffs?'

Interesting post SR and I think you have a point.
I do believe people would look at it differently.
Imagine this headline that could easily have been written a short time ago:
Nottingham sign International Midfielder from Italian giants Roma.
Instead of Forest sign another player from Olympiakos.

Don't forget that they were trying to get McKay to go over there in the summer even though he had been rejected here. So, the idea may simply be that there's a degree of assistance expected/assumed between the clubs but the draw to England for foreign players is greater than the draw to Greece is from our players.

That's exactly my point.
I think we're also doing Olympiacos (is it a 'c' or a 'k' by the way?) a bit of a disservice. After all, they just comfortably dispatched the team that finished 7th in the so-called 'best league in the world' in the Europa League.

i'm a big sceptic of the revolving door policy, having said that if you are going to get someone on a free this looks excellent business, 6f 4in, have you seen his muscles? if he could be used as a makeshift striker or ball playing as well as towering defender i'd like it even more, basically he looks an awesome weapon in either penalty area.
I like this guy, to be honest, value wise i'd say he could be the best, I mean 27, champions league, international
at 6ft 4in a decent cross and it's a goal.
height is something, but this guy looks incredibly fit as in strong as ox, he could carry a team to the promised land.

Absolutely, and so it should be.
I just think that these players have been viewed less favourably because of where they've come from.

i think looking at his background and pedigree it looks a good signing. my doubts come from listening to a few guys on here who have seen him and say he will struggle with the pace of championship football. bit like bouch who was obviously a good footballer but struggled with the english game.
now if we can get someone with legs in around him that may mean he can be that deep sitting ball playing guy we need. nothing against the signing, hope it works out!
