Turning Points - jurgen rober - 24-03-2026
Over the years there have been many times when things have transpired and brought good luck or bad luck but have changed situations. We have all seen these incidents and I remember the turning point that could well have been the point where our history was forever changed.
February 1977 I was sat on the old wooden seats in the old East stand watching a night match between Forest and Southampton. Southampton scored in the first minute and they were going for promotion the same as we were. We were
really poor through the first half and there was no way we were going to score and level the game. Early in the second half, it wasn't the mist rolling in from the trent but fog. It slowly got worse and worse and the match had to be abandoned. When we replayed the match we won 2-1 and the points from the replayed game (2 at the time) helped us secure 3rd place by a point and get promoted. And as they say, the rest is history.

I remember it too mate.
I was there with my dad and we stood on the Bridgford End. Think Southampton wore yellow and Mick Channon played.

91 Cup final surely. Milford sends off Gascoigne, we win the game, Clough retires in a blaze of glory the way he would have wanted and the 93 season never happens.
Having said that would he actually have retired? possibly not.

Another one that doesnt get mentioned enough
Not selling Brennan to Brentford in January of our promotion year. Think £20m was on the table?
Deal was done according to some, Cooper fuming at the press conference only for EM to step in and block the deal.
Took a lot of nerve that one, the last 4 years may never have happened.

Wonder what went on with Brennan at Spurs with Frank? Did Frank hold a grudge and bomb him out I wonder?

Parish didn’t bother complying with UEFA’s rules, which meant we got into the Europa League…which led to qualifying for the Champions League…?

Wolves winning at Bolton on last game of season 1977 so Bolton couldn't pass us and we went on to get promoted. Cloughie and the team were in the air flying to Spain as they had finished their games and the captain announced the result over the p a system.
