RE: The General Feeling And Next Season - Plymouth red - 03-03-2021

I'm confident that we can bounce back next season as long as we keep our heads above water this season.

I think in Hughton we have a manager with proven success at this level - but he needs time having inherited a shambolic situation

Hopefully fans will be back in stadiums and the schedule will allow us to field our best side more often without it becoming leggy or injury prone.

A better pre season will also help.

But what has the potential to make or break next season is our transfer business. Not just getting the right player in but moving players on.

We need to trim the squad and recruit wisely. Hopefully Hughton can blend in some of the younger players like mighten and Johnson as well as strengthen the wings and attacking department.

What we need to avoid is wholesale changes 5-6 out, 4-5 in.

Build some stability - not just in the coaching but in the squad - the turnover of players this past 3-4 years has been insane - no wonder the team often play like strangers

Sounds about right to me that ^^

i think the loss to Swansea, late draw to Derby and conceding then a colossal capitulation in performance against Luton are collectively huge stumbling blocks

putting the disappointments to one side, but even in the cold light of day there are glimmers of optimism

The progress is still tangible and we are still 11 points clear of relegation and Derby still lost

I think the players and particularly the manager will all be hurting really bad right now, but, going through the playing a team off the park, missing loads of chances and then looking well beaten experience now could work out as good experience and add to the generally solid foundations being built

Last night really just confirmed what we have all known for a long time that this season is a write off regards achieving anything vaguely resembling excellence but to achieve excellence, and like fine gold excellence has to be refined, maybe several times and involves a huge amount of heat

I think now this stage of this season this far down the league ... the squad can really learn more from the Luton type setbacks than a narrow win, still foundations but building for the future is well under way

The seemingly purely mystical 4 nil thumpings will ... 1 day ... become the norm

Losing 3 in 15 is indelible progress.

Only the lack of goals from transformative (compared to earlier in the season) performances with Garner, Cafu and Krov' installed in appropriate positions have joined defence and attack. The performances show the players are clearly now playing to Hughton's brief.

Games in the Championship a tight 1 goal margin affairs. The days of teams being lined up for whoopings are over, off days aside.

There's only been '1' goal in the last 3 games or so. It's that tight. An error here...or a scored goal there. That's where the service has to be nasty and clinical with robust and ruthless finishing.

A couple of wins can change the narrative from write off to looking upwards. (Cardiff and Barnsley show what 'can' be done but they're not the norm.)

Forest haven't been as patient as the teams in the top 7 in general. With our self inflicted malaise.

Time. We need to buy into our own ethos with a manager we can trust.

Our man, The Guv'nor, Chris 'Italian Job' Hughton.

SA.

Next season? Can't wait. Getting back in the ground home and away. What's not to like?

Performance next year?  If we remain tight at the back and score most of the sitters we have missed this season we would be 15-20 points better off than this season.

If we get new players who settle in quickly and some of our current team improve 5% we will do ok  especially with this manager.

For me though it's mainly about being there again.

This time next year we'll be playing in front of sell out crowds and challenging for top 2.

If I was a betting man which I am not then I would have a few Euros on that ^^
